A CLOSER LOOK AT UNEMPLOYMENT OF YOUTH IN KABUL

This unemployment pilot study was sponsored by Pearl Horizon Consulting and conducted by Business DNA between May 2018 – May 2019 in Kabul. The pilot survey took place by

surveying a specific number of unemployed population of Kabul city to untangle the characteristics and causes of unemployment according to the respondents. The responses were mostly collected during job fairs and gatherings of youth. A total of 306 unemployed people (53% male and 47% female) responded to the survey.

The next phase of the unemployment survey will cover at least five other provinces including Balkh, Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad, and Kandahar. Interested organizations can get in touch with us for partnership, sponsorship, and any other support toward the completion of a grand survey.

A SURVEY OF WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES IN AFGHANISTAN

This study was sponsored by Pearl Horizon Consulting and conducted by Business DNA between April – July 2018 by interviewing women entrepreneurs that represented Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat, Kandahar, and Jalalabad.

The purpose is to present a brief set of firsthand information about the challenges and demands of women-owned businesses
 in Afghanistan. A total of 225 women entrepreneurs responded to the survey.

Special thanks to Promote: Women in Economy for facilitating researchers of Business DNA 
to interview women entrepreneurs that participated in the National Business Women Summit in Kabul between 17-18 April 2018. The Women Center (TWC) at AUAF also gracefully supported data collection through its network of women entrepreneurs.

Business DNA will conduct the survey annually and present the information through its print and online versions.

Our special appreciation goes to the women-owned businesses who responded to
the survey and shared their thoughts and experiences.

A SURVEY OF STARTUP BUSINESSES IN KABUL CITY

This study was sponsored by Pearl Horizon Consulting and conducted by Business DNA between May – October 2018 by surveying Startup business owners in the urban areas of Kabul.

The purpose is to present first-hand information about characteristics, challenges and demands of Startup businesses in the city. A total of 236 Startup business owners responded to the survey. We define a Startup as a business that is established, whether formally with a license or otherwise, in January 2017 or after. Responses were collected online, by email, and through face-to-face interviews.
